Matraville Sports High School is proud to be part of the HPGE Partner School Program. This involves significant upgrades to facilities to expand learning opportunities for high potential and gifted students. These upgrades will include improvements to building infrastructures and learning spaces.
Our school is committed to providing a challenging and supportive environment to help students achieve their potential in the creative, intellectual, physical and social-emotional domains. The Partner School Program gives our school access to expert HPGE support and tailored resources. High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.

At Matraville Sports High School, High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is a whole-school priority, with specific strategies applied within the classroom. The school is committed to identifying and supporting high potential and gifted students, ensuring that all learners have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
- Tasks tailored to each learner, adjusting pace and complexity to challenge thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ongoing formative assessment to track progress and ensure learning is adapted to meet each student’s needs.
- Explicit teaching of critical thinking and problem-solving, helping students develop strong reasoning skills.
- Collaborative learning opportunities, with flexible group work for discussion, ideation, and presentations.

As a Sports High School, we provide targeted HPGE programs across 7 elite sports, promoting excellence in the physical domain. For further information on the various sports on offer, please visit our dedicated page under “Talented Sports Program” . Students who are not part of the TSP still have access to a wide range of opportunities in the physical domain, including participation in school sport, representative teams, carnivals, extracurricular sporting activities, and programs that promote physical health, teamwork, and personal development.
The physical domain is complemented by extensive opportunities in leadership, the creative and performing arts, and the social, emotional, and intellectual domains. Programs beyond the classroom that provide valuable growth opportunities include:
