Inclusive learning centre (ILC)

Matraville Sports High School has 7 classes for students with diverse needs.

Our Inclusive Learning Centre is dedicated to providing a diverse range of educational opportunities, tailored to meet the unique needs of our students.

We believe in holistic education, and our students actively participate in all aspects of school activities e.g. assemblies, swimming and athletics carnival, camps and multicultural days. At the Inclusive Learning Centre, we're committed to empowering every student on their educational journey, ensuring they have the resources and support they need to thrive.

Specialised Classes

• Two classes designed for students with a mild intellectual disability.

• Two classes cater to students with a moderate to severe intellectual disability.

• The Support Unit offers 3 specialised classes for students with Autism as their primary disability.

Tailored Support

The ILC caters to students diver needs by offering:

• Lower student-to-teacher ratios for enhanced individual attention.
• Funding to ensure a well-rounded educational experience.
• A dedicated team of highly trained staff, Student Learning Support Officers (SLSO's) and specialists.
• Specialised classrooms designed to accommodate unique learning needs.
• Access to support from expert consultants, ensuring every student's success.
• All students have the option to access either the mainstream curriculum or Life Skills outcomes, empowering them and their family to choose the educational path that suits them best.
• A school learning support officer (SLSO) provides additional support for the students accessing the Year 7 playground at recess and lunch times.

Learning in the ILC

· Individual Education/Transition Plans (IEP)

In term 1 teachers conduct IEP meetings in consultation with parents/carer and other relevant stakeholders. At these meetings individualised goals related to student learning and wellbeing are established. These plans are reviewed in term 4 each year.

· Curriculum

All students follow the NESA curriculum and have the option to access either the mainstream curriculum or Life Skills outcomes.

· Allied Health Support

Parents/carers can request to have an NDIS funded service delivered at school. Access to the school by eternally funded provider is at the discretion of the principal.

Work Experience Programs

These are available for students who are in year 10, 11 and 12. Maintaining student safety is our main priority.

Scope  Student placement program.

Windgap  Provides support and empowerment for people with disabilities.

Avenue

Woolworths and Coles

These programs allow selected students to gain job-ready skills and knowledge.

To apply for placement in a support unit class, parents/carers must contact their local public primary or high school to complete an Access Request form.
