We're proud and excited to announce the UNSW Matraville Education Partnership.
Seventy student teachers from UNSW will be based at Matraville Sports High School throughout each semester to provide on-site opportunities for academically gifted and talented students, including advanced classes and extracurricular enrichment programs.
The unique partnership, which includes drama and gifted education programs, will focus on the arts and science, as well as literacy and numeracy initiatives for those students needing additional support.
"This partnership is for our students. It is about providing them with all of the opportunities they deserve," Nerida Walker, Matraville Sports High School's Principal said. "The partnership is about collaboration in education, and the future of this school."
Primary and secondary students receive will receive one on one music tuition from UNSW Music Education Students and prepare ensemble performance pieces together.
UNSW Education students will provide homework help and after-school tuition three days a week to primary and high school students until 4.30pm.
Drama is high on the agenda, with high performance programs including theatresports, improvisation games and collaborative performance work.
UNSW trained teachers and students teachers Gifted and talented programs include taking part in the prestigious art competitions such as the ‘Archibull'.
UNSW students are matched with Year 12 students for HSC tuition.
This is a pioneering school university alliance and has already brought positive change to our classrooms, school and community, as well as new and exciting opportunities for our students.
This unique partnership supported by a reference group including the Hon. Bob Carr, Matt Thistlewaite, Michael Daley, chaired by the Vice Chancellor of UNSW Professor Ian Jacobs.
