Science is mandatory for all students from Year 7 to Year 10.
Science 7-10 provides a way of inquiring about the world around us. It explores evidence and investigates ways to discover, develop and produce solutions to real-world problems. Science emphasises the skills for working scientifically, as well as critical and creative thinking to address scientific issues.
In Years 11 and 12, students can choose from different science disciplines, including:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Earth and Environmental Science
- Investigating Science
- Physics.
In Year 12, students who are studying at least one other science subject may also choose to study Science Extension.
Learning from home – Science
In response to the unfolding COVID 19 situation, the Science faculty has set up an online learning platform using Compass, as the main reference point.
Each day students are to log into their COMPASS account.
All Stages/Years
COMPASS
· Sign into your Compass student portal account via:

· Select your Science class for that day and review the lesson plan and notes set by your classroom teacher
· Complete the lesson by following the instructions set in the lesson plan
· Click on links to access online learning resources (e.g. worksheets, Education Perfect etc.)
· Access any current assessment task(s) and have a clear understanding of the task along with submission instructions
· Contact your classroom teacher via COMPASS if you have any questions related to classwork or assessment
· Textbooks (pdf versions) can be downloaded from the ‘Resources’ tab of each class in Compass. (Most texts are there, some more to come)

Education Perfect is an online learning platform that Matraville Sports High School has integrated into its curriculum.
It enables student to focus on learning at home, providing structured lessons suitable for both the classroom and individual learning.
These lessons start with introductory slides, which gives students a good understanding of the topic. Rich images and videos breakdown difficult concepts to provide a thorough understanding of the topic. Teachers through the platform monitor students’ progress, and feedback is provided.

Atomi is an online teaching and learning platform for students, teachers and schools. This resource is used here at Matraville to provide short video lessons, interactive quizzes and smart revision tools. This resource is available for the Year 11 and 12 Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

The Jacaranda Active Outcomes Stage 4 and 5 textbook along with the Learn On online platform is another resource used. The resource provides essential questions, workbooks, homework books, weblinks and interactivities that are all accessible via Compass or the JacPlus website. Upon viewing your lesson plan on Compass, resources from Jacaranda will be attached and or/ links to other resources provided.
