Technological and applied studies

Technological and applied studies (TAS) is mandatory for all students in Year 7 and 8. Students can also select from a range of elective TAS subjects.

In TAS, students develop knowledge, understanding and skills through a design and production process using a range of tools, materials and techniques in theory and practical lessons.

The continuum of technology learning is:

mandated from Kindergarten to Year 8 through Science and Technology K-6 and Technology Mandatory Years 7-8 syllabuses
based on students becoming increasingly sophisticated in their ability to apply knowledge, skills and understanding to design and produce solutions
optional for student specialisation in high school through a range of syllabuses addressing particular technologies and aspects of design.

Learning from home – Technologies

In response to the unfolding COVID 19 situation, the Technologies faculty has set up an online learning platform using Compass. As a student learning from home, please remember the following each school day:

· Sign into your Compass student portal account via:
https://matrasport-h-nsw.compass.education/

· Select your Technologies class for that day and review the lesson plan and notes set by your classroom teacher

· Complete the lesson and ensure that you submit your work promptly

· Access any current assessment task(s) and have a clear understanding of the task along with submission instructions

· Contact your classroom teacher via email if you have any questions related to classwork or assessment

Google Classroom:

In all stages of Technologies, Google Classroom is used as a virtual landing point where teachers upload lessons to a stream and members of the classroom can access online materials, post materials and submit classwork to be marked and given feedback. The access code to your classroom will be provided in your lesson plan on Compass.

Education Perfect:

Education Perfect enables students to focus on learning at home, providing structured lessons suitable for both the classroom and individual learning. These lessons start with introductory slides, so students gain a good understanding of the topic before it's taught. Rich images and videos break down difficult concepts and give students a thorough understanding of the topic. It also allows the teacher to monitor your child’s progress and provide feedback through their control panel.

NESA Past Papers:

This site provides access to past HSC papers for Year 12 students to practise HSC exam-style questions. HSC exam papers, with marking guidelines and HSC marking feedback, are available for each course.
